How to Balance Blogging and Working Full Time

I love reading blogs. And earlier this year when I was searching for something to do as a hobby to give myself a break from my job I thought why not try building a blog of my own. But I never quite appreciated just how much hard work goes into a blog (all you bloggers make it look so beautifully effortless!).

Autumn Blogging Goals

Recently I've been reading lots of lovely and cosy Autumn posts, I even wrote my own favourite beauty buys for Autumn post. I've also started seeing lots of "Autumn goals" posts. These have really inspired me to set myself some goals and look at what I'd like to achieve with my blog in the short term. I've only been blogging since April and to begin with I don't think I really tried particularly hard. I wasn't quite sure how it all worked and I definitely felt far too lost to dive in head first. I sort of just dipped my toes. But now I understand blogging a bit better, I know I really want to preserve with my blog and really put some effort and hard work into it.

Business and Pyjamas with The Reach London

Hello lovelies! Tonight I wanted to talk about two things I'm passionate about: entrepreneurship and pyjamas!! Starting my own business is one of my all time dreams but what does it take to launch a successful enterprise? I caught up with luxury pyjama brand The Reach London to find out.

Dream Travel Destinations

Hello!! So I've spent the summer mostly in the city which has been amazing for my job, but the concrete and glass buildings aren't the most exciting location to spend your summer and they've had me dreaming of my next trips!

Luxury Beauty Favourites for Autumn

Hi hi hi!!! Today I'm talking beauty for Autumn! As summer is slowly leaving us (sob) I've been busying myself in my lunch breaks at work finding my favourite luxury products to fill my make up bag and beauty shelf with. I think they are really perfect for Autumn and I wanted to share them with everyone!

Switching Off from Work When on Holiday and Travelling

Recently I've been busying myself writing travel posts about my recent trips to Las Vegas (you can read about it here) and Morocco (find it here) and day dreaming about my next adventures, so today I wanted to talk about something I found quite difficult for both trips - switch off from work.

Growing up my mom had always had quite stressful, attention heavy jobs. And when we went on holiday, despite her best efforts there were times she was answering calls and emails from the sun lounger. As a graduate I felt this pressure enormously as in the past people have told me you can't take any time off during your time on a grad programme. This really worried me to begin with but I've come to realise it was completely ridiculous.

Three Ways to Wear Culottes

Hello hello! I apologise in advance for the amateur photography in this post! Who knew it would be so difficult to take outfit photos by yourself! But I love the trousers featured in this post way too much not to share them!

Culottes have sort of come out of no where and become very very cool! And I love that! My body isn't in the state I'd like it to be in (I'm working on it though) so culottes are a welcome break from all the tight, skinny fit clothes that have cycled through fashion recently. They're loose fitting and perfect for the summer (if the sun ever manages to stay out for longer than a day)

We Need to Support Each Other

Hey hey! This morning I logged onto Twitter to catch up with the blogging world and to my utter disappointment I came across a post where someone just couldn't let another blogger try to share and encourage support amongst women. The message was simply let's have each others backs. But as per usual, a push for a positive message wasn't lapped up by everyone. And it got me thinking, why can't girls share encouragement, support, and positivity without being made to feel small or guilty for it.

Diorskin Nude Air Foundation by Dior

Hello!!!! Today I want to talk about my absolute favourite foundation. For the last 6 years I've been the biggest fan of Dior's Diorskin foundation range. I obviously went through the phase every girl goes through where we wear the most awful, badly matched foundation (it's a right of passage let's be honest!) but my mom and auntie decided to intervene and took me "proper foundation" shopping. I was marched to the Dior counter and the lovely makeup artist tried all the different foundations and colours to find the perfect match for my skin. We settled on Dior's Diorskin Nude in shade 021. It has been the best foundation I've ever had. Until this year, when I discovered that Dior have an even more perfect foundation! Dior Diorskin Nude Air.

Highlights From my Recent Trip to Marrakech and Essaouira

Another travel post!!! At the end of June my boyfriend and I took our annual anniversary trip away; this year heading to Morocco to escape the drizzly grey weather and brexit (don't get me started)!

We started our trip in Marrakech. This famous city has always been on my "must visit" list and there was a lot more to the city than I had thought their would be. We decided to try out traditional moroccan riads for our trip - these guest houses are all rated better than the big hotels and they were just too beautiful to pass up. In Marrakech we stayed at Riad Blue Du Sud. They sent a car to collect us from the airport, but as the cars can't enter the main city, they escorted us the rest of the way on foot. It was a bit daunting being taken down a winding maze of streets but when we went through the door into the riad we were met by the most colourful place I could imagine and the most friendly staff! The riad had 5 rooms, over 2 floors, all of which opened out into a little court yard. Our room had a four poster bed, and I'll be honest I felt like an Arabian princess when laying in it.

My Five Minute Make Up Routine

Living an hour+ away from work means I have to get up super early to get ready each morning. This isn't great. I'm very much a sleepy sort of person and as it's been winter, getting up early enough to put my make up on nicely has been a real struggle. To keep my morning routine quick and simple (so I don't have to get up super early), or if I need to get ready in a flash, I've collected a handful of products that give you flawless make up in no time. And give you that extra five more minutes in bed!

Highlights from Las Vegas

Writings travel posts is harder than I ever thought, so it's taken me a while to actually write this! Today I'm talking about my trip to Las Vegas way back in May. We flew out on Sunday from Heathrow for four days in the craziest city. It's a long flight to Las Vegas, an annoyingly I was sat by myself, so I entertained myself inflight by trying out Benefit's Pore-Fessional Instant Wipeout Mask - you can catch up on what I thought here.

We decided to stay at The Mirage hotel. We stayed here the first time we came to Vegas and decided it would be a good place to head back to. The hotel is filled with tropical trees and really gives you the feel of being in an oasis in the middle of the desert. It's in the perfect location on the strip, right in the middle of everything! After checking in, we headed up to our room. We had the most beautiful hospitality suite which gave us a bit more room to stretch out. The huge windows let in so much light and the view as phenomenal. There are so many hotels in Vegas, each with their own theme and feel. I'm eager to come back and try out one of the other hotels.

Benefit PORE-Fessional Instant Wipeout Mask Review

On Sunday I flew out to America and took the opportunity to try out a new product I've been dying to try. Anyone who knows me will know that I've been struggling with my skin the past few months, so after exhausting my attention with the inflight films I decided to try out the Benefit Pore-Fessionals Instant Wipeout Mask!

What I've Learned Being on a Graduate Scheme

So I've been in my new job for around six months now. I can't quite believe how long ago September was!!!! I was fresh faced and ready to start being an adult. Whilst I'm missing the months off I got at uni and I could do with an extended nap most afternoons, I really am loving where I am and what I'm doing!

My Top Five Work Lipsticks

I've been excited to write my first post, and it took a long time for me to decide what I wanted the topic to be. Work make up, I decided, seemed like a good place to start. I work in an office, so I always stick to quite natural make up to look professional. I'm an avid fan of lipstick so I thought I'd share my top five lipsticks to wear to work.

New to Blogging, Introductions First...

We're a quarter of the way into 2016 and a lot has changed for me over the past 12 months. Last year I graduated from the University of Leeds and migrated back home to the south, before starting my incredible graduate job in London. It's been a lot of change, but change is good. Despite working full time, and doing professional exams, I'm finding I have way more spare time than I did at uni. Especially during my long and boring commutes!
So...introducing The City Notebook and I guess, me! My name is Amy, I'm 23 and live in Surrey.
